This series of paintings is called the Blackboard Series. I begin by coating the surface with several layers of black gesso. Then when I begin to add color it has a unique glow. I try to let black outlines show, and I also carve into the wet paint to make the black show through. I feel very creative doing this. That's because there is an element of surprise ...I'm not sure how it will look.
